what a beast to play!
but sounds excellent.......

borrowed from a friend, i'm not sure if it's ever been used on a recording before.
the EPI pickups, thru my rig, are very stout and midrangy,
which makes the tracks really stand out against all my other ones.


these shots are from a session for a song called "Road to Tabriz"......
i posted an instrumental version of it a ways back....

the addition of the 12-string made the parts i wrote for it sound a bit 'mid eastern',
which was the reason for pulling this axe into the mix........


so, when i first started dialing in sounds thru the boogie and speakers,
i was using some amount of gain..
but the more i played with it,
the more i realized it just needed to be clean.....
then it all fell together.

i currently have EL84's in the boogie (instead of the typical 6L6's) by way of an adapter,
and it gives the boogie a bit of a Vox voicing to it.....
so it really works for these particular tracks.


this song is one of NINE new tunes on a new album i'm putting out shortly,
called "Stay"

When I try to connect using the pic links...I get "web Page blocked - adult p0rnography" warning.....


I guess a double neck is p0rn :D

It's not your pics...it's that site you are using. It must be heavy with p0rn pics so our web service blocks it entirely.

Why don't you just attach them directly to the post?

i found that i was over gripping it, when i first started playing..
took me about an hour to figure out my own technique on the thing.

ended up simply being a lighter touch,
and much focus on right hand, instead of left.

that, and resisting the urge to play Xanadu

LOL
 
How does the Tone Press sound? Was looking at one recently, but didn't try it out. I have exactly two pedals and am looking at starting a small collection "good ones"

i sold my original script DynaComp, after i got the tone press..

with the 'BLEND' knob, it's brilliant.

you can go for total squish, then dial it back to where it's hardly noticeable

it's not the only comp with a blend knob,
but it really works on this pedal.

i used it on one of the 4 tracks of 12-string,
with a clean setting on the amp and just a hint of breakup,
and the tone press,
sonic nirvana.
 
I played one of the Epis at GC a few months ago - geez that sucker is heavy. 12 string electrics seldom benefit from too much gain/distortion.
Wish I could get my 12 string acoustic to sound like an electric!
 
Depending on what sound you're looking for, Dano 12s are pretty good. More of a Ric kind of sound though.

I wish Epi would sell a reasonably priced singleneck SG 12. To me the only point of a doubleneck would be to switch while playing live.

That and the awesome cool factor.

The important question is, Gonzo, did you go out and buy a bow to go with it?

you can hear the 12 - string on the first verse, when the vox come in.....
then hear and there throughout....
there are 4 tracks, each doing something different, but all at once.

about half of what i tracked, i took out.
i just needed the 'flavor' that the 12 string offered on a few parts...
but i pretty much tracked with it thru the entire song!!

just cuz it was new.......

It is most likely just an over sensitive web filter....but once the warning comes up, I'm not about to push it. :)


Anyway...nice looking double-neck. :thumbs up:

Was this purchase purely for want of a Page look-alike copy...or do you have actual performance need for a 6/12 string combo?

You have the same Avatar cab as I do...though I went and changed the white piping to gold, and made it match a custom head.
I'm currently using the cab with a WGS Invader, 8ohm/50watt speaker. Sounds great combined with the head, which has a plexi flavor to it.
