??? about gold plate they put over pickups on LEs Pauls

can I take this Gold cover off so it looks like a normal black pickup?

its the Gold pickup cover that alot of Les Pauls have, Im buying one used but in teh pic its on a les paul with the Gold Plate over it, is this what the pickup looks like or just a gold cover?
 
Yes you can remove it, but don't trash it because the Paul will retain more value with them if you would ever want to sell it.

Also be aware that those covers also help in the sheilding of the pup's.
