Hello HomeRecording.com!

At Distopik, we've made it possible to control analog gear over the internet. Version 2.0 of our web application launched on May 31, 2018, and we'd like to invite you to test the app for free. You can create a free trial account (all trial accounts have full premium features atm) and we promise not to spam you. We've literally only sent 2 newsletters in the last month (and we're doing just fine).

You can find the app at mixanalog.com.

The app still has some bugs and is missing a few features, but we're getting there. If you want to help us get stuff done faster, help us by providing us with user feedback.

So...what is Mix:analog?
Mix:analog is a web application that offers real-time remote control and monitoring of analog studio hardware over the internet. It connects you to our servers that have access to digitally controllable analog studio equipment and lets you control it in real-time. When you are changing the settings of the graphical user interface (GUI), you are actively commanding the the server to apply the same settings on the analog gear that is connected to it. The processed audio is streamed to your device in real-time at up to 192 kHz and up to 24-bit lossless quality.

How is this possible?
We developed our own electronic components that are digitally controllable. These components can send and receive data, which can be stored on a computer device, to be used later. We’ve upgraded our gear with these components, replacing pots and switches. This also makes the save/recall feature available on any gear, modded with our parts.

Why aren’t you using digipots?
Digipots don’t find most use cases, because of the resistance values that they are only available at. Then, there’s also the problem with digipots not having enough voltage or current headroom for demanding circuits in e.g. tube gear. There are a few knobs where we actually could make use of the digipots, but most of the time, we use our custom electronic components.

Are the files really processed by real analog equipment?
Yes, they are and we're about to record a fresh behind-the-scenes video to deliver the proof. Meanwhile, you can take a look at our YouTube channel. You’ll find clips from our R&D Archives and sometimes the live-stream of our Rack1 system will be up. There's not much action (obviously), but if the blinking lights make you feel better, we'll try to keep the live-stream running.

How to use the app:
1. UPLOAD a file you want to process.
2. Press PLAY and TURN THE KNOBS.
3. LISTEN to the processed audio, while it is streamed back to you in real-time, at up to 192kHz and up to 24-bit lossless.
4. Switch to the DOWNLOAD tab and get the file.

List of available gear:
- Burl B80 Mothership with BDA8 and BAD4 units
- Distopik FC670 (Fairchild clone)
- Distopik EQP-1A (Pultec clone)
- Distopik Precision MEQ
- soon Telefunken M15 (automated)
- soon Bettermaker Mastering Limiter
- about 8 more pieces to be added this year

We'll be checking this thread and answering all of your questions. Cheers!

Links will be added when we get the post count, that allows for that.

I dont think that's an acceptable post per forum rules. Sounds like you're selling something.

A link to your website in the signature block is ok. You can sell from your site should people want to visit. But generally doing a pitch on the forum is frowned upon.

Well, the app is free to use and we're in beta. There's nothing to sell yet. I'd like to make you aware of the existance of our website (which is pretty hard to do when targeting an audience like audio engineers, who are generally pretty smart and don't have the patience for all the advertising bull*hit we're fed daily).

I'd also like to get a public group conversation going and see what answers rise up. We'd be fools to think we built the perfect service that everyone understands and wants. Gearslutz and Audiosex forums already proved us wrong and we're very thankful for the feedback we got from there.

The trick is, the vast majority of visitors of our website are amazed and think it is the best thing ever. It's nice to see people like it, but we absolutely need to hear all the doubts, scepticisms and people questioning us.

If this ain't acceptable, the admin should totally remove this post and give me a warning. I'm cool with it, everyone should follow the forums rules.

(I have to post 5 posts before I can link anything.)

Sorry if I misunderstood.
Might be a good idea to check with Steenamaroo .
He's the boss, not me.

Yeah, we do generally take down any kind of advertising, even if the product is free, or a trial, or it's a youtube channel/blog.
'Free' is one thing with a product price tag, but what's the value of email addresses or beta-tester feedback?

I think it'd be very hard to draw lines and there'd be endless appeals and questions so we just maintain a simple 'don't advertise' policy.

As RFR says, though, a business link in your signature is cool.

Not sure about being the boss, though. I'm pretty sure I answer to Jimmy!

Oh, ok.

The value of email addresses is probably close to zero. We found out that audio engineers either fall in love with our project or don't really care about it. The feedback is pretty valuable though and we'll reward it with a free month of premium subscription, when we implement pricing.

Is there maybe another way for fresh products to be presented here? I checked if there is an advertising thread, but only found the private party buy/sell thread.

Mktg is not a problem here, but a little more involved and not blatant. No outright sales pitches.

1) Post, contribute, get to know people, have people get to know you.
2) when you get a certain # of posts, (not sure of the amount) you can post a link in your signature.
3) As people get to know you, and trust you, I'm sure you'll get some interest.

That easy. :)

As I'm sure you know, it's all about the networking.

But this place isn't really favorable to people just coming here for the purpose of hocking their wares.

It's a community. We talk, exchange info, sometimes argue, but it's just a place where recording enthusiasts hang out.

:D

To be honest this is why it's all or nothing.
I don't mean to sound rude, but everyone wants to explain why their advertising isn't advertising. ;)

I believe it's possible to strike a deal with AudioFanzine (owners) for proper paid advertising space but I'm not certain.

Generally any announcements about new products around here are from non affiliated members.

Thanks for explaining and thanks for the hint!

I'm amazed on how polite and patient you are. I felt like all audio forums and groups are just rude and smartassy all the time. You proved me wrong! :)
