does RNC have sidechain compression?

Im sorry, Im a lil confused, what would I plug in that jack? could you give me a little more info please Wayne?

thanks

TRS stands for Tip Ring Sleeve. It looks like your average 1/4" instument plug, but it has 3 conductors instead of 2. The signal it carries is a balanced one like an XLR (microphone) cable. You can plug a standard 1/4" cable into it from whatever source you want and it will work, although the TRS configuration gives you less noise.

Just to clarify, a TRS cable only carries a balanced signal if it's carrying a balanced signal. :) In other words, it's simply CAPABLE of carrying a balanced signal. The signals running through a TRS cable used as an insert are not balanced.

Is the sidechain "port" on the RNC a seperate input, or is it an insert?

To confuse the issue furthur...TRS doesn't denote a cable, it's a connector. A "TRS cable" is a 3 conductor cable with TRS plugs on it. That same cable could also be used as an "XLR cable" if, you guessed it, you put XLR connectors on it.

The jack is an insert marked 'tip out' 'ring in', for access to the compressor's detector signal.
If you send it through an eq, boosting frequencies will increase the gain reduction (the same as lowering the treshold knob) but more at those frequencies. Or a combination of boost and cut could be used.
Another application is ducking, where one track is sent into the side chain jack to punch holes in the track going through the compressor.
There's wiring info at the FMR site's FAQ page.
:D
