    That was great, Greg.

If I can just give my 2 cents on what I do when I start mixing. I usually start out by muting the snare and getting the overheads to where the hi-hats, toms, cymbals seem to be at a good volume. Usually at that point, the snare will be close, but a little low, since it's only coming out of the overheads. I then bring in the snare mic until it's at a good volume. Sometimes, that might be less than half of the overhead volume. Sometimes, it might be more. But, from there, if I find the snare too loud (or too low), it's just a matter of playing with the snare channel without changing the overheads.

What Rami said about the OH's and the snare but I usualy start with the kick and the bass then bring the OH's n snare in...then my compressed OH track in for ambience.

Yeah you're not wrong. Old Gerg here will not be amused if the browntooth brigade rain on his Ramones drums parade (that line almost scans!).

For the record - I was only stealing avatars of 'classic HR characters' that I'd not come across for a while..........nostalgia, if you will.

YO GERG - Cool thread, numbnuts!

Great post, Greg! I gave you rep too recently and it wouldn't let me again, so I repped pandamonk instead.

Do you put something under the drums (like carpet or something)?

Yeah, but not for sound control, although that's an added benefit. I have a big 5'x8' rug so the drums don't slide around on the tile floor.
