Fishy smelling ride

I just picked up a really nice zildjian Avedis ride from the 70's. Soon after placing it in the bag i realized my hand smelled very strongly of fish. I smelt the ride and it reeks! Is this normal? Any recommendations on how to fix this? Thanks in advance.
 
I honestly have been really curious as to how it obtained its smell. I probably wouldn't want to know though. I purchased the ride for a friend who has requested I not clean it. I will not see him for a couple months so ill just keep the thing in its cymbal bag and hope the smell doesn't escape. Just for fun I threw in a pic of the ride: IMG_0328.jpg
 
Zildjian's always smell funny.

Spraying a little 409 or whatever will not really mess with the patina and save your cymbal bag from picking up the smell, unless you secretly enjoy that stench.
 
Do'h I shoulda thought of that sooner. I just rubbed down the cymbal with some disinfecting wipes and it smells a whole lot better.
