for a punchy bass kick sound in pro tools ill take and put a fairly wide band boost at 3k and a narrower boost at 8k and then slam the track with an 1176 (the bomb factory one) if you have a good compressor y0u can achieve this though. for the fat boom of a kick, try adding any where from 60hz to 100 hz
60 moves the speakers quite a bit so dont over do that one. one other tip, the BEST shelving eq for bass drums is called MCDSP ANALOG CHANNEL2. there is no shelf smoother for drums.
