Last month I got myself a 14x8 Pearl free floating brass snare. Then began the hunt for the brightest snare head.
Having read that free floaters love to ring, I started off with a Coated Powerstroke 77. Too dark. Also quite dead.
Next I'm considering either Coated Ambassador, Coated Controlled Sound, or their Smooth White counterparts.

What do you guys think is the brightest snare head out there? And what makes one snare head brighter than the other?

Use one of those kevlar marching drum heads. Crank it tight.

I would not use heads with any dampening like the controlled sound or the powerstroke. I would go thin and undampened. I use Remo Emperor or Evans G1, and both ring quite nice

I have ambassador/diplomat heads on my pearl free floating 14x5
tuned with with drumdial it sound great!
